Texas Tech women’s basketball has made a power move in the offseason by securing a commitment from Campbell University’s standout guard Gemma Núñez. A seasoned junior with international roots and a dynamic on-court presence, Núñez is set to bring high-level playmaking, elite defensive instincts, and veteran leadership to the Lady Raiders as they gear up for a competitive season ahead.
Hailing from Almería, Spain, Núñez quickly made a name for herself in collegiate basketball with her impressive court vision, relentless defense, and ability to elevate the play of those around her. Her standout junior year at Campbell earned her a place on both the All-CAA Second Team and the All-CAA Defensive Team—an acknowledgment of her two-way dominance and unmatched hustle on both ends of the floor.
In the 2024–25 season, Núñez led the Coastal Athletic Association in assists with an outstanding 6.3 per game. Her efficiency and basketball IQ were on full display as she posted a 2.29 assist-to-turnover ratio, placing her among the top playmakers in the country. Nationally, she ranked fourth in assists per game, an impressive feat that underlines her natural ability to control the tempo and facilitate offensive flow.

She was instrumental in a gritty 56–52 win over first-place North Carolina A&T, where she posted a career-high 16 points and tied her personal best with 10 rebounds.
