NC State Football Joins the Race for Promising Tight End Prospect PJ MacFarlane
Lakota East High School (Ohio) standout tight end PJ MacFarlane is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after recruits in the 2026 class. Ranked No. 35 nationally at his position by 247Sports, the 6-foot-5, 215-pound three-star prospect has recently captured the attention of NC State football head coach Dave Doeren and his recruiting staff.
In just the past few weeks, MacFarlane’s recruiting stock has skyrocketed, with notable programs such as Duke, Liberty, Cincinnati, Maryland, Pitt, Washington, Northwestern, and Virginia extending scholarship offers. The Wolfpack’s interest adds even more intrigue to the race for the talented tight end, who is now firmly on the radar of several Power Five programs.
MacFarlane’s junior season showcased his versatility and playmaking ability. He amassed an impressive 40 receptions for 586 yards and eight touchdowns, playing a pivotal role in Lakota East’s successful 7-4 campaign. His outstanding performance earned him First-Team All-Greater Miami Conference honors, further solidifying his status as one of the top tight end prospects in his class.
For NC State, MacFarlane is one of eight uncommitted 2026 tight ends on their recruiting radar. The Wolfpack’s recruiting class currently ranks No. 46 nationally, with commitments from three-star offensive tackle Brady Sakowitz (Trinity Episcopal School, Va.) and quarterback Jacob Smith (Reagan High School, N.C.). Both recruits are expected to be foundational pieces for the program moving forward.
