With all three children—Rylee (5), Brayan (2), and Kian (1)—either enrolled in school or set to start later this year, he contends that a nanny is no longer necessary.
Furthermore, Butler highlights that Nowak is unemployed and has made no effort to seek employment, placing the financial burden solely on him. His legal team has also raised concerns about the use of the substantial child support payments, questioning whether they directly benefit the children.
Failed Mediation and Renewed Legal Action
Court documents reveal that the former couple attempted to resolve their differences through mediation, but Nowak reportedly refused to compromise. She insists that the financial support for a nanny remains essential, despite the significant monthly child support she already receives.
The documents include a provision suggesting that, if Nowak claims she cannot afford a nanny despite the $55,000 monthly payments, Butler may request an accounting of how the funds are being utilized. Additionally, the court could appoint a guardian ad litem to oversee and evaluate the expenditures to ensure they align with the children’s best interests.
Butler’s Lawyer Defends His Stance
Butler’s attorney, Brian Karpf, emphasized his client’s dedication to his children. In a statement to the Daily Mail, Karpf described Butler as “a good father who remains committed to the care and well-being of his children.” He also echoed a sentiment shared by many individuals navigating similar legal disputes:
“Child support is intended for the benefit of the children and only the children. There is no justification for additional expenses here.”
Despite his legal challenges, Butler’s financial situation is robust. He is currently in the third year of a four-year, $184 million contract, earning $49 million this season.

Off the court, Butler’s future with the Miami Heat remains uncertain. The star forward has been linked to several potential trade destinations, with the Phoenix Suns emerging as a plausible landing spot. According to ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins, the Suns could offer Butler a two-year, $121 million contract extension, a move reportedly endorsed by Suns superstar Kevin Durant.
“From my sources … the Suns have a two-year, $121 million extension waiting on Jimmy. … Kevin Durant wants Jimmy Butler, and if he does get Jimmy Butler … they’ll both gonna sign contract extensions,” Perkins stated.
However, a trade to Phoenix may hinge on Bradley Beal waiving his no-trade clause, something he has yet to express willingness to do.
