Georgia Tech’s football program is set to lose a promising talent, as freshman offensive lineman Kai Greer has announced his intention to transfer to Stanford University. Greer, who joined the Yellow Jackets as part of the 2024 recruiting class, entered the transfer portal on December 30, 2024, after redshirting his initial season in Atlanta.
Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 280 pounds, Greer was a notable acquisition for Georgia Tech. Hailing from Marvin Ridge High School in Waxhaw, North Carolina, he was rated as a four-star prospect and ranked as the No. 19 player in the state. His high school career showcased his versatility and athleticism, not only on the football field but also in track and field, where he competed in shot put and discus events.
Despite his potential, Greer did not see game action during his freshman year with the Yellow Jackets. The decision to redshirt him was likely aimed at allowing him to develop physically and adapt to the collegiate level of play. However, with a desire for more immediate playing opportunities, Greer entered the transfer portal and has now committed to joining the Stanford Cardinal.
Stanford’s acquisition of Greer addresses a significant need for the Cardinal, who have been seeking to bolster their offensive line depth. Greer’s size, combined with four remaining years of eligibility, makes him a valuable addition to their roster. Among the notable losses is wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr., who led the team in receiving yards with 56 receptions for 754 yards and three touchdowns before transferring to Auburn. In response to these losses, Georgia Tech has been active in the transfer market, securing commitments from 13 players for the 2025 season. One significant addition is former UTSA edge rusher Ronald Triplette, who recorded 23 tackles, including four sacks, and two forced fumbles in the previous season.
