Indiana Fever Coach Says She Was ‘Worried’ About Caitlin Clark Against Lynx
On Friday night, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever suffered a 99-88 loss to the Minnesota Lynx, just the Fever’s second defeat since the WNBA’s return from the Olympic break. Throughout the game, there appeared to be many missed calls on Clark. She had expressed her frustration with the lack of calls throughout. Towards the end of the third quarter, after the refs made a blocking call on the Lynx, Clark began clapping at the ref for finally making the right call.
With the former Iowa Hawkeyes star sitting with five technical fouls on the season, two away from a suspension, coach Christie Sides wasn’t taking any chances and pulled Clark out of the game for the remainder of the quarter.
In a postgame interview, according to IndyStar Sports reporter Chloe Peterson, Sides revealed that she pulled Clark out of the game because of the technical foul issues.
“I was worried she was going to pick up a T in that third quarter, and thank goodness that she didn’t,” Sides said. “But that’s growth, and she’s got to learn that in those moments, I need my point guard to have a cool head, get us in whatever we need to be in offensively.” Clark finished the game with 25 points on 8-of-21 shooting, eight rebounds and eight assists. With the loss, the Fever now sit at 18-17 on the season, but still own a one-game advantage over the Phoenix Mercury for the sixth seed in the WNBA playoffs
